MARATHON OIL CASE STUDY: COMMUNICATIONS PROMOTING THE TRANSITION TO AN EXCHANGE MARKETPLACE

Kimberly Moore, Benefits Manager, MARATHON OIL
Christopher Rinko, Account Executive, Exchange Solutions, FIDELITY INVESTMENTS

Change can be confusing, unwelcome or just plain ignored. The importance of communication is critical to creating awareness, building trust and helping people move beyond the status quo.

Employees who understand the intrinsic value of their healthcare benefits are more receptive and better able to optimize the features of a healthcare exchange marketplace.

Marathon Oil will share the strategic drivers underlying their decision to transition to a healthcare exchange model and the communication strategies they used to manage the change with their active employees and pre-65 and post-65 retirees.

Specific areas to be addressed will include:

  • Strategic considerations and business drivers leading to an exchange model for healthcare
  • Workforce sensitivities associated with the decision to move to an exchange differences between actives, pre-65 and post-65
  • Overall communications campaign schedule, themes, channels
  • What were most common (or most unusual) responses?
  • What might have been done differently?
