MINDFULNESS IN THE WORKPLACE

Erin Barfels, Chief Human Resources Officer, ARAG
Sarah Noll Wilson, Talent Development Business Partner, ARAG

Rising workplace stress is increasing healthcare costs and lowering productivity.  Mindfulness is quickly becoming an effective and inexpensive way to reduce workplace tension.  Companies like Google, Quaker Oats and Aetna - among others - have embraced mindfulness as an important practice.  Employees who practice mindfulness report decreased stress, increased communication, improved collaboration and enhanced creativity.  What is mindfulness? What research exists? How do I do it?  Why should I consider implementing a mindfulness program at my location? Key learning objectives: Define mindfulness and mindfulness practices, describe the impact mindfulness can have on individuals, organizations and experience a mindfulness exercise and guided meditation.
