CASE STUDY: MAKING THE DECISION TO PROVIDE BENEFITS THROUGH AN EXCHANGE

Eric Grossman, Senior Partner and Exchange Business Leader, MERCER

The key factors that employers need to evaluate in making this important decision include the current cost of providing benefits, the range of alternatives available to control these costs, the resources available to administer benefit programs, compliance risks, the importance of benefits as part of total rewards in attracting and retaining talent and employees’ ability to make appropriate benefit choices. We will address each of these factors in the context of our experience working with clients that have gone through this decision-making process.

  • Factors to considering in moving to DC exchange model
  • Features to include in a private exchange
  • Challenges in moving to a private exchange and how to overcome them

This session will also cover the features that should be included in a private exchange:

  • Decision support tools
  • A broad range of medical plan options and other types of coverage
  • Access to multiple vendors, with pre-negotiated terms and conditions
  • An end-to-end administration platform to provide customer service to employees
  • The level of defined contribution from the employer and flexibility for employees to “buy up” additional coverage
