IS YOUR WELLNESS PROGRAM REALLY WORKING? A HEALTHMATTERS WELLNESS JOURNEY AT AMERICAN AIRLINES

Christine Morris, Specialist Health Resources, People Department, AMERICAN AIRLINES

In 2009 American Airlines launched Healthmatters, a comprehensive population health management (PHM) program, designed to lower its healthcare costs while substantially improving the health of its employees and dependents. What did American learn on its PHM journey about engaging its membership with their health--not just for the incentive but for a lifetime? What has been Healthmatters' impact on their population's health, risk factors, outcomes, and cost? How has American's use of and perspective on incentives and culture evolved? This session will illustrate how American and its wellness vendor collaborated as learning organizations, and will provide a framework and scorecard you can use to evaluate your PHM programs.
