Obesity is one of the most challenging, and costly, health crises facing America. Two-thirds of adults and one-third of children are overweight or obese. The National Institutes of Health estimates that an obese person incurs an incremental healthcare cost of $1,429 per year—that’s about $80 billion across the country in 2011, and even more than smoking. In 2012, Benefits Forum & Expo is tackling the obesity issue head on, hoping to inspire benefit managers and companies across the nation to embrace initiatives that reduce obesity.
